The Municipal Corporation (MC) authorities have intensified enforcement action against those dairy units violating sanitation norms, following complaints received through social media platforms and public reports regarding the improper disposal of cattle waste.
The civic body on Tuesday issued challans to several dairies, imposing a total penalty of Rs 46,000 and served notices to 15 other dairy units. The notices carry a strict warning that any continued violation—particularly the discharge of cow dung and wastewater into drains or sewer lines — would result in sealing of the premises, with full responsibility resting on the operators.
The action comes a day after local Congress MLA Bharat Bhushan Batra raised the issue of overflowing sewage and cow dung on Mal Godam Road and issued a one-week ultimatum to the district administration to resolve the grievances, warning of a protest sit-in (dharna) if no action was taken.
Municipal Commissioner Narendra Kumar said inspection teams had already been directed to take strict action against dairies contributing to public nuisance and unhygienic conditions through improper waste disposal into drains and sewers.
“During inspections across multiple dairy locations in the city, officials found several units failing to comply with cleanliness and waste management guidelines. In many areas, significant accumulation of filth was observed around dairy premises, and improper disposal of dung and other waste materials was reported, in violation of prescribed sanitation standards. This led to penalties and issuance of notices,” he said.
The Commissioner further emphasised that maintaining sanitation standards was mandatory. He directed all dairy operators to ensure proper disposal of waste and maintain cleanliness within and around their premises. He added that the Municipal Corporation would continue regular special drives under its cleanliness campaign and strict action will be taken against any future violations.
