District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Abhishek Meena has said 1,39,760 electors would exercise their right to vote in the municipal elections to be held in the district on Sunday.
“These include 1,15,203 voters of Municipal Council, Rewari, and 24,557 voters of Municipal Committee, Dharuhera,” he said, adding that 99 polling booths have been set up in Rewari and 27 in Dharuhera.
Meena appealed to people to cast their votes in the elections, maintaining that every vote counts in a democracy. “Sometimes, even a single vote can determine a candidate’s victory or defeat. Therefore, every voter must exercise his/her right to vote,” he stated.
The District Election Officer said by-elections will be held for the post of Panchayat Samiti member in Ward No. 5 of Bawal block, post of sarpanch in Fatehpuri Tappa Dahina village of Dahina block and for the posts of panch in several other villages. A paid holiday has been declared for the registered voters in respective areas on Sunday.
The District Election Officer said the district administration is committed to conduct peaceful and fair elections. He stated that the polling parties have left for the polling stations with the election material. “The district administration has made strict security arrangements so that the voting process can be carried out peacefully,” he maintained.
To ensure a smooth dispatch process of polling parties, the Deputy Commissioner inspected the departure points with officials and reviewed the arrangements.
He said voting will be held from 8 am to 6 pm. If necessary, a re-poll will be held on May 12, while the counting will be held on May 13.
“Swift action will be taken against those violating the Model Code of Conduct,” he said, adding that the district administration will keep a close watch on suspicious elements and fake voters.
