A total of 3,79,459 voters will exercise their franchise in the elections to various Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) in Una district, scheduled to be held in three phases on May 26, 28 and 30. This was disclosed by District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Jatin Lal on Saturday.

Among the five development blocks in the district, Bangana has the lowest number of voters at 63,506, while Haroli has the highest electorate with 88,062 voters. The remaining blocks comprise 75,053 voters in Amb, 72,324 in Gagret and 80,514 in Una block.

Meanwhile, after the second day of filing nominations for the PRI elections, the Election Department had received 3,751 nomination papers across the district.

These include 24 nominations for Zila Parishad seats, 298 for Panchayat Samiti posts, 909 for the post of pradhan, 748 for up-pradhan and 1,772 for ward member seats in gram panchayats.

Jatin Lal said May 11 would be the final day for filing nominations for the Panchayati Raj elections. He appealed to voters to actively participate in the electoral process and elect suitable representatives to strengthen democracy at the grassroots level.
