MCA, MIC not in Anwar’s cabinet

PUTRAJAYA- There are no representatives from MCA and MIC in the unity government cabinet announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Friday.

MCA president Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong was transport minister while MIC deputy president Datuk Seri M.Saravanan was the human resources minister in the previous government.

Anwar announced that DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke was appointed as the Transport Minister while Batu Gajah MP and DAP representative V. Sivakumar has been appointed as Human Resources Minister.

Two ministries were combined into a single ministry, namely the Environment and Water Ministry and the Energy and Natural Resources Ministry.

The ministry is now known as the Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change Ministry which will be led by Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.

The new government will not have a Special Functions Minister.

Anwar announced 28 ministers in total and the swearing-in ceremony will take place at Istana Negara at 3pm, tomorrow (Saturday)
