
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has intensified sanitation and dust-control measures across the capital through large-scale “Dust Free Roads” campaigns and mega cleanliness drives in all 12 zones under the Swachh Bharat Mission, officials said on Saturday.
The civic body said the campaigns include mechanised road sweeping, water sprinkling, jetting machines and deployment of sanitation workers to improve cleanliness and reduce dust pollution across key stretches of the city.
In Karol Bagh Zone, the MCD launched a 15-day “Dust Free Roads” campaign from May 18 covering major PWD roads, including Girdhari Lal Goswami Marg, Vande Matram Marg, Shankar Road, Rani Jhansi Road, DB Gupta Road and Najafgarh Road. Officials said mechanised sweeping, roadside dust removal, footpath washing and water sprinkling were carried out as part of the drive.
According to the civic body, nearly 15.2 km of roads were cleaned till May 21, during which around 20.8 metric tonnes of dust and 9.2 metric tonnes of garbage were removed.
In South Zone, sanitation and dust-control operations were carried out on stretches between Dhaula Kuan and AIIMS, including Nelson Mandela Marg, Aurobindo Marg, Rao Tula Ram Marg and Africa Avenue Marg. Around 100 to 150 sanitation workers were deployed along with mechanised road sweepers, sprinklers, trucks and jetting machines across an area of nearly 8 to 10 sq km. Officials said about 20.31 metric tonnes of dust and waste were removed during the campaign. The City-SP Zone carried out a mega sanitation drive at Magazine Road, Aruna Nagar and Majnu Ka Tila, involving around 130 sanitation workers.
