MCMC and PDRM are investigating the “Dickie Borneo” account for posting a video of someone stepping on the Quran, warning against sharing such inflammatory content
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is working with social media platforms to identify the owner of the “Dickie Borneo” account.
This follows the spread of a video on Threads and Facebook showing an individual desecrating the Quran.
MCMC stated it is also cooperating closely with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) to ensure swift and firm action is taken.
“The act not only insults the Islamic religion but also has the potential to incite tension and threaten the harmony of our multi-racial and multi-religious society,” the commission said.
Initial checks found the original post had been deleted and the involved account could not be located.
However, further investigation will continue.
MCMC’s subsequent monitoring also identified several other posts containing elements of religious insult, believed to involve the same individual in a social media group.
All related content has been preserved as evidence for investigation and further action.
The commission advised the public not to reshare any content that could trigger tension or disrupt public order.
“MCMC will not compromise on any content that insults religion, incites hatred, or touches on the sensitivities of race, religion, and the royal institution,” the statement read.
It warned that stern action could be taken under existing laws.
