Media race promotes Sandakan landmarks under VM2026 campaign

SANDAKAN: Sabah Tourism Malaysia hosted the Visit Malaysia 2026 Hunt and Explore Media Race 2026 on Saturday to promote the district’s eco-tourism, cultural, and heritage attractions.

State Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Jafry Haji Ariffin flagged off the race, witnessed by Tourism Malaysia Sabah Deputy Director Khairul Amir Anuar.

A total of 121 participants comprising 31 teams from the media, influencer, and open categories completed various scavenger and photo challenges across major local landmarks before the race ended at 5pm.

The stops included the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre, Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre, Rainforest Discovery Centre, Agnes Keith House, and several local heritage and religious sites.

Organised under the Visit Malaysia 2026-2027 campaign, the initiative seeks to support the national target of 47 million international arrivals by spotlighting Sabah’s east coast attractions.
