Melaka aim to win at least one medal from golf in Sukma 2026

Melaka’s golf team targets at least one medal at SUKMA Selangor 2026 after months of preparation and competing in over 10 tournaments

MELAKA: The Melaka golf team is confident of securing at least one medal at the 22nd Malaysia Games (SUKMA) Selangor 2026, which is set to raise its curtain this week.

Melaka State Golf Association (PGNM) President Shahrin Muharam said the squad’s preparations have been carried out comprehensively since November last year, including participating in over 10 tournaments as part of the buildup for SUKMA.

“A total of four events will be contested in the SUKMA 2026 golf event, namely the men’s and women’s individual categories as well as the men’s and women’s team categories.

“Insya-Allah, based on this merit, we are confident and believe that our golfers are capable of winning a medal this time,” he said at a press conference following the announcement of the eight golf players who will represent Melaka at SUKMA Selangor, held at Yayasan Melaka on Jalan Hang Tuah here today.

Also present was Yayasan Melaka General Manager Datuk Radhuana Salleh, who also serves as the patron/adopted department head for the Melaka SUKMA golf squad.

Commenting on the prospects of the women’s players, Shahrin said Amelia Lee is among the players to watch based on her consistent performance in several previous tournaments.

He said Amelia is one of the targets to contribute a medal, though other players also have the opportunity to provide strong competition based on their respective performances.

“Consistency is very important in golf, and I hope all players can deliver their best performance throughout the tournament and focus on mental and physical endurance challenges while the competition takes place,” he said.

Meanwhile, Radhuana said Yayasan Melaka is honored to be entrusted with supporting the Melaka golf squad for this edition of SUKMA, including through financial contributions and moral support for the players and coaches, while hoping the golf squad can contribute medals and bring honor to the state.

The SUKMA 2026 golf competition is scheduled to take place from August 18 to 20 at the Glenmarie Golf & Country Club.

Melaka’s best achievement record in the sport was at SUKMA Perak 2018, where they won two gold medals and one bronze.
