The Melaka state government has launched an urgent investigation following disturbing allegations that a 22-month-old baby girl was left waiting nearly 11 hours for medical attention at the Emergency and Trauma Department of Melaka Hospital. The delay reportedly led to the infant suffering a seizure, sparking widespread public concern after a video of the incident began circulating online.

The 13-minute video, which went viral on social media, showed the baby crying uncontrollably—believed to be from the pain of a persistent high fever. The footage provoked emotional reactions from the public, with many expressing outrage and demanding accountability from hospital authorities.

State Human Resources and Unity Committee chairman Datuk Ngwe Hee Sem responded quickly after learning about the case, contacting Melaka State Health Director Dr. Ruzita Mustaffa. In light of the viral attention and severity of the allegations, he directed the relevant health authorities to begin an immediate probe into the situation.

The state government is treating the matter with utmost seriousness, particularly as it involves the health and safety of a young child. Officials have urged the public and media outlets to refrain from jumping to conclusions or spreading unverified claims until a comprehensive report is finalized. Emphasis was placed on ensuring a fair and thorough investigation to determine whether there was any negligence on the part of medical staff.

The incident came to light through a social media post by the baby’s mother, Siti Aishah Rahim, who detailed the harrowing experience. According to her, she brought her daughter, Siti Farha Adelia Mohd. Firdaus, to the hospital around 2:30 p.m. last Saturday. However, despite the child's worsening condition, they allegedly waited until late into the night without receiving appropriate treatment.

The Melaka government has promised that, if any form of neglect or procedural failure is uncovered, decisive action will be taken to ensure accountability. The case has highlighted concerns about emergency response times and patient management within public healthcare facilities. It also reignited discussions on the need to improve the efficiency of services in overcrowded hospitals, especially in cases involving infants or critical conditions.

As the investigation unfolds, public attention remains fixed on the outcome, with many hoping for systemic improvements to prevent such distressing incidents in the future.
