MELAKA - A 22-month-old girl is under close observation at the Melaka Hospital after waiting nearly 11 hours for treatment, during which the toddler suffered a seizure and was later diagnosed with a viral infection.

The incident came to light after the child’s mother, Siti Aishah Rahim, 27, shared her ordeal on Facebook, claiming her daughter, Siti Farha Adelia Mohd Firdaus had a high fever and was left untreated for hours despite repeated pleas for help.

She said her daughter's condition worsened when her temperature spiked to 40°C, but the nurse on duty merely told her to "be patient."

She said her daughter cried in pain throughout the long wait and was only treated nearly 11 hours later.

Doctors later diagnosed the toddler with a viral infection affecting her respiratory and digestive systems, as well as her eyes and lungs.

"We felt the care was careless and insensitive given how critical my daughter’s condition was.

"They only seemed to take it seriously after the post went viral," Aishah said adding that hospital staff later approached her to apologise.

Her daughter remained under medical observation due to her unstable condition.
