SHAH ALAM – Umno secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki has confirmed that negotiations and discussions with Pas ahead of the Melaka state election are ongoing.

He said the talks, which include the potential use of party logos, have been progressing positively between both parties.

"Yes, negotiations and discussions with Pas have taken place and are currently ongoing. Very positive, Alhamdulillah," he said briefly in a Facebook post on Friday.

In the same post, Asyraf Wajdi shared a link to a news article quoting Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang, who stated that the party is open to considering the use of the Barisan Nasional (BN) logo in the Melaka election.

The Marang MP, speaking after delivering a Dhuha lecture at Masjid Rusila in Terengganu on Friday, emphasised that discussions regarding the logo and cooperation with BN remain ongoing.

He added that Pas is prepared to consider using either its own logo or BN's, depending on the outcome of the negotiations.

This development follows an announcement on Sept 23 by the Registrar of Societies (RoS) confirming that all activities of Perikatan Nasional (PN), led by Pas, have been suspended under Subsection 13 (2A) of the Societies Act 1966 (Act 832), effective immediately following a notice issued on 22 September.

Meanwhile, Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh also expressed a positive response to Hadi's latest statement.

He voiced confidence that this progress would further strengthen efforts towards ummah unity.

"Alhamdulillah... We welcome this proposal and initiative. They may try to block us using the power they hold, but Allah responds with something far better.

"May this further reinforce the unity of the ummah, and Melaka shall bear witness, Insya-Allah," he said.
