KOTA BHARU – Pas denies it will announce its candidates for the Melaka state election alongside Barisan Nasional (BN), contrary to an earlier statement by Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
Pas deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said the party was expected to announce its candidates on Oct 28 or 29, during the final week before nomination day.
“Not at this point. We will announce them in the final week, either on the 28th or 29th,” he told a press conference here on Friday.
Earlier, he delivered a speech at the Kuliah Pagi Jumaat Perdana in conjunction with the Karnival Rakyat 36 Tahun Membangun Bersama Islam (MBI) at Dataran Warisan, Stadium Sultan Muhammad IV.
On Thursday, media reports said BN and Pas were expected to share a stage on Saturday to announce their respective candidates for the Melaka state election.
BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the announcement was scheduled to take place at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC).
Tuan Ibrahim said Pas had previously given BN the opportunity to announce its candidates first before revealing its own list.
However, he stressed that the priority at this stage was to ensure cooperation among the parties involved remained smooth throughout the Melaka state election campaign.
“What is important is that the cooperation continues smoothly and strengthens the parties involved,” he said.
He said the approach adopted for the cooperation was based on mutual understanding between the parties, similar to the model used during the previous Negeri Sembilan state election.
