ALOR SETAR – Perikatan Nasional (PN) can use the Pas logo as an alternative to contest the upcoming Melaka state election following the cancellation of the coalition’s registration by the Registrar of Societies Malaysia (RoS).
PN election director Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor said using the Pas logo would not pose a problem, as the party’s symbol was already widely recognised by voters.
“PN can use the Pas logo to contest in the Melaka state election,” he said.
Sanusi, who is also Pas central election director described the cancellation of PN’s registration as a “mafia-style” approach, alleging that it stemmed from the government’s desperation to curb the coalition’s growing influence ahead of the next general election.
“Rarely does a government in the world cancel the registration of an opposing party, except in dictatorial and communist governments. Malaysia is operating like the mafia; they are desperate,” he said.
Earlier, media reports stated that RoS had cancelled PN’s registration after finding that the explanations and representations submitted by the coalition had failed to refute the grounds for cancellation outlined in an earlier notice.
