MELAKA – The 16th Melaka state election will be held on Nov 14, with nomination day on Oct 31, the Election Commission (EC) announced.
EC chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun said early voting would be held on Nov 10, while the 14-day campaign period would run from Oct 31 to Nov 13.
Applications for postal voting opened on Sept 23, he said.
“The closing date for postal voting applications is Oct 28 for Category 1A, namely election workers, EC members and officers, police personnel, military personnel and media personnel.
“For Category 1B (Malaysian citizens residing overseas) and Category 1C (agencies or organisations), the closing date for applications is Oct 23,” he said.
The election follows the dissolution of the Melaka State Legislative Assembly on Sept 23, announced by Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh at Seri Negeri.
The Melaka assembly comprises 28 seats. In the previous state election, Barisan Nasional (BN) won 21 seats, while Pakatan Harapan (PH) secured five and Perikatan Nasional (PN) two.
Melaka's election will be the third state election held this year, after Johor on July 11 and Negeri Sembilan on Aug 1.
As of July, Melaka had 687,697 registered voters, compared with 495,195 voters in the 2021 state election.
