The Melaka state government has channeled over RM4.45 million through the Melaka Sayang Rakyat (MeSRa) general welfare aid to 2,430 recipients as of July, alongside millions more for specialized medical and care assistance
ALOR GAJAH: The state government continues to strengthen its social welfare network through various initiatives, including channelling over RM4.45 million under the Melaka Sayang Rakyat (MeSRa) general welfare aid to 2,430 recipients statewide as of July.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusof said the commitment had also been strengthened through the disbursement of over RM3.08 million in MeSRa Disposable Diaper Assistance and MeSRa Bedridden Patient Milk Assistance, benefiting 3,345 recipients.
“We do not want to build a Melaka that is only investor-friendly and tourist-friendly, but also one that is elderly-friendly, persons with disabilities (PwD)-friendly and child-friendly.
“This is what completes a developed state, when development also brings well-being and a dignified life for everyone,” he said.
He said this in his speech at the opening ceremony of the 2026 Melaka State-Level Elderly Day, PwD Day and Children’s Day celebration, held in conjunction with the Wakil Rakyat Untuk Rakyat (WRUR) for the Tanjung Bidara state constituency here today.
He said that in expanding the welfare network in Melaka, the state government also appreciated the support of the Federal Government, which channelled over RM98.78 million, benefiting 28,666 recipients in the state from January to July.
He said that for senior citizens alone, over RM51.25 million had been channelled to 12,568 recipients, while for the PwD community, attention had also been given to education and potential development by increasing learning fee subsidies from RM500 to RM1,000 for 423 children with autism in the state.
Ab Rauf said assistance was also provided through the Kasih Kanak-kanak Advocacy Programme, which included RM92,880 in subsidies for childcare centres (Taska) for low-income families, as well as the Talian Kasih 15999 as a channel for assistance and protection.
He said the assistance sent a clear message that the welfare of the people would remain an important part of Melaka’s development agenda.
Earlier, over 1,000 senior citizens, persons with disabilities and children were feted at the event with a luncheon, various cultural and artistic performances, as well as the presentation of 13 awards, including the Special Exemplary PwD Parents Award, the Melaka State PwD Sports Figure Award and the Melaka State Senior Citizen Figure Award.
