MELAKA – The Melaka state election is likely to be held this month, with Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh hinting that the dissolution of the State Legislative Assembly could be imminent.

Ab Rauf said an important day for the state would take place within the next ‘two Fridays’, suggesting the state election could be held soon.

“People ask, what is going to happen to us? We should not worry, today is the birthday of Paya Rumput assemblyman Datuk Rais Yasin. Two more Fridays, it will be our birthday.

“We are indeed waiting for the date when we will hand over the power in our hands, to choose whoever we want to choose. Right?” he said while speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony for SRA Sungai Udang during the Chief Minister Sayang Rakyat Tour at the Sungai Udang state constituency on Monday.

Ab Rauf also urged Melaka voters to choose leaders capable of safeguarding their welfare.

“So if we want to choose a place to bathe, first is the bay, second is the beach. If we want to find a leader who knows how to do good, first is good, second is capable. Who else? Rais!” he said.

He also expressed his appreciation to all parties, particularly educators and teachers from the Religious Schools under the Melaka Islamic Religious Department, for their contributions and commitment.

On Sunday, Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi gave Ab Rauf, who is also the Melaka Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman, the mandate to negotiate and select cooperation partners capable of helping BN secure victory in the upcoming state election.

During the closing ceremony of the Youth Carnival Motorcade at the Melaka International Trade Centre, Zahid also called on Ab Rauf to announce the date for the dissolution of the State Legislative Assembly immediately, taking into account the positive support from youths for programmes organised by the state government.
