A mentally ill man allegedly killed his sister, two goats and the family’s pet dog with a spade, when she made a routine visit to her home.

Sandeep Kaur, a married woman and mother of two children from nearby Toot village, had come to her parental home only to check on the condition of her brother, Rasal Singh, who had reportedly been struggling with mental illness for a long time.

Mukhtiar Singh, father of the deceased, said the atmosphere inside the house suddenly turned violent after an argument. In a fit of rage, Rasal Singh allegedly attacked the family’s pet dog and two goats before fatally assaulting his sister. Their mother was also severely injured while trying to intervene.

The incident has left the village in shock, with neighbours describing the family as deeply troubled by the son’s deteriorating mental condition. Residents said Sandeep often visited her parents to support them and help manage her brother during difficult episodes.

“She came here out of concern for her brother and parents. Nobody imagined this would happen,” said a villager.

After the incident, Rasal Singh roamed in the village with the blood stained spade leading to panic among the residents, who went inside their homes in fear.

Police from Patti Sadar station reached the village after the incident and began investigations. The accused remains under police custody, as officials piece together the circumstances leading to the attack.
