A mentally ill man, identified as Rasal Singh, allegedly killed his sister, two goats and a pet dog with a spade at the border village of Sabhra here on Thursday.

Mukhtiar Singh, the father of both the accused and the deceased, said that his son was not in a stable mental condition. He stated that Rasal Singh first killed the pet dog and two goats following an altercation at home. He then attacked his sister, Sandeep Kaur, killing her with a spade and also seriously injured his mother.

Mukhtiar Singh further said that his daughter was married in the nearby village of Toot. She was the mother of two children and had come to visit her parental home to enquire about the health of her mentally ill brother.

A police team from the Sadar police station (Patti) reached the spot and examined the sequence of events. Rasal Singh also assaulted his mother, who has been admitted to hospital for treatment.

DSP (Special Crime) Parvesh Chopra said that a case has been registered and the accused has been arrested. The police have seized the spade used in the crime. The body of the deceased was sent to Civil Hospital, Patti, for a post-mortem.
