Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim lauded the 'Menu Rahmah' initiative which offers easy on the pockets meals at under RM5 to lessen the people's burden. He said the government praised the initiative taken by Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry led by Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub.

Menu Rahmah programme launched by Salahuddin earlier this year which was intended to provide affordable meal options for people struggling with the cost of living. About 15,000  premises had joined this initiative which include fast food brands such as McDonald's, Marrybrown, Burger King and A&W that offered options such as a burger and a drink under RM5 to help hardcore poor.

Salahuddin, according to Bernama, said "The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) introduced the Menu Rahmah with zero budget from the government, thus, all the participants agreed to bear the overall costs for the meals as part of their corporate social responsibility (CSR) to serve the community who are really in need. Even hypermarkets  like Aeon Big with its subsidiaries chain and Mydin Holding will offer its first phase of Menu Rahmah within three months until May 2023."

Salahuddin assured "the introduction of Menu Rahmah by KPDN benefits all Malaysians regardless of income and living standard. The initiative could ease the people's burden and is meaningful to those in need. This initiative offers premium meals and the Ministry will never allow traders to sell low-grade meals using poor-quality ingredients."

Bernama also reported, Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living, Fuziah Salleh said that the Ministry in collaboration with the Local Government authorities aimed to set up 50 Rahmah Ramadan Bazaars throughout the country to help the needy obtain reasonably priced food and drink for the breaking of fast.

The Menu Rahmah concept bazaar apart from the traditional Ramadan bazaar synonymous with visitors before, the introduction of the new concept are expected to liven up the atmosphere of Ramadan as it also gives the public the best prices. It is normal for petty food traders to absorb minor cost increases in raw materials, but adjustments on the menu would have to be made to offset the increments, otherwise, it would significantly hurt profits. In petty food business, they price their food items based on a certain profit margin, but if the increasing costs start to hurt their profits, they've to adjust pricing because they've to pay rent and workers' salaries unless they get government's subsidy.
