Mercedes-Benz S 580 e with EQ Hybrid Technology gets updated in Malaysia.
Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has unveiled the updated locally-assembled Mercedes-Benz S 580 e with EQ Hybrid Technology, reinforcing its flagship sedan’s position as the benchmark of luxury, innovation, and refinement. Repriced at RM738,888 (on-the-road without insurance, including 10% sales tax), the new S-Class is now roughly RM20,000 more expensive than when this S-Class generation debuted. That being said it now charges much faster, has larger rims, has rear-wheel steering and gets some minor styling tweaks.
Design and Driving Dynamics
The S 580 e continues Mercedes-Benz’s design philosophy of Sensual Purity, with an elegant silhouette flowing seamlessly from front to rear. The addition of 20-inch 10-twin-spoke forged wheels enhances its commanding presence, while rear-axle steering of up to 4.5 degrees ensures agility and stability across both city streets and highways.
Power comes from a 2,999 cc engine paired with an electric motor, delivering a combined output of 510 hp and 750 Nm of torque. This allows the S 580 e to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.2 seconds, with a top speed of 250 km/h.
The new high-voltage battery supports DC fast charging up to 60 kW, enabling a charge from 10% to 80% in just 20 minutes—making hybrid luxury more convenient for daily use.
Interior Luxury and Comfort
Inside, the S-Class remains a sanctuary of refinement. Highlights include a crystal-look black-dotted center console, climatised front seats with three-stage heating and ventilation, and diamond-stitched upholstery that combines craftsmanship with comfort.
The cabin also features ENERGIZING AIR CONTROL, which continuously monitors cabin air quality and automatically switches between fresh air and recirculation modes. Equipped with antibacterial interior filters, the system reduces harmful particles and viruses, ensuring a healthier environment for all occupants.
Advanced Technology
A 5th-generation MBUX system powers the intelligent cockpit, displaying real-time data including air quality levels. Meanwhile, passengers enjoy a serene, whisper-quiet environment honed by extensive durability testing—including over 160,000 km across various conditions.
