SANDAKAN: Datuk Julita Mojungki says the implementation of the Merpati Programme, which includes a day-care centre for senior citizens, is an important initiative to strengthen social welfare in Sabah in line with the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) agenda.

She said the programme supports families without replacing their role, while allowing senior citizens to remain active, socially engaged, and valued in the community.

Eligible participants are aged 60 and above, in stable health, without infectious or chronic illnesses.

Fees are set at RM10 per day and RM30 for short-term overnight care of up to one week.

The programme currently accommodates 60 elderly participants, with plans for expansion to benefit more residents.
