- The Metropolitan Police has been ordered by the police watchdog to reinvestigate a complaint from Father Ted co-creator Graham Linehan regarding his arrest in 2025.
- Mr Linehan was arrested at Heathrow Airport on suspicion of inciting violence over posts on X, leading the Met to later apologise and pay him a civil settlement.
- The Independent Office for Police Conduct found the Met's initial response to Mr Linehan's complaint was not reasonable or proportionate.
- Scotland Yard must now reinvestigate allegations that Mr Linehan was discriminated against due to his gender-critical beliefs, alongside concerns over his bail conditions and grounds for arrest.
- Following criticism of the case, the Met announced it would cease investigating non-crime hate incidents to focus on criminal matters.
