World Cup fans traveling to MetLife Stadium have been handed a major price break after the New York/New Jersey host committee cut its shuttle bus fare from $80 to $20.

The change matters because travel costs had become one of the biggest complaints around the MetLife World Cup experience. Fans were already facing expensive match tickets, limited parking, and a rail plan that drew heavy criticism.

This new bus option gives supporters a far cheaper way into the stadium. It also shows organizers responding after the original transport pricing created a backlash.

MetLife Stadium shuttle price drops before World Cup

As The Athletic reported, the New York/New Jersey host committee has cut its round-trip World Cup shuttle bus price to MetLife Stadium from $80 to $20.

“The New York/New Jersey host committee has slashed the cost of its FIFA World Cup shuttle bus service to MetLife Stadium by 75 percent, reducing the fare for fans from $80 to $20 during the tournament,” The Athletic’s Adam Crafton wrote.

He added, “The committee had previously committed to providing 10,000 bus seats for fans travelling to games at MetLife, but has now increased its inventory by hiring classic American yellow school buses.”

That is a significant shift for fans trying to plan around one of the most expensive host-city travel setups of the tournament.

MetLife Stadium will host eight World Cup matches, including the final on July 19. With no standard on-site parking for most fans, mass transit and shuttle plans were always going to define the matchday experience.

The $20 bus workaround now gives supporters a cleaner alternative to higher rail costs and expensive parking options around the stadium.

MetLife Stadium travel plan adds more bus seats

The bigger development is not only the price cut, but the expanded number of seats. Organizers have increased capacity by using yellow school buses, creating more room for fans who want the cheaper route.

“There will be 18,000 bus seats available for the five World Cup games at MetLife, including the World Cup final on July 19, that do not take place on school days,” Crafton continued.

He concluded, “There will be 12,000 seats available for the three group stage games at MetLife that fall on weekdays before the school year ends.”

That split is important because availability will depend on the school calendar. Weekend and non-school-day matches will have more bus seats, while weekday group games will have fewer.

Still, the overall change is a win for fans. A $20 round trip is much easier to defend than the original $80 shuttle price.

It also gives the host committee a better answer to criticism that getting to MetLife was becoming too expensive before fans even reached the stadium.

The World Cup final will bring enormous attention to New York and New Jersey. This bus price cut will not solve every transport issue, but it makes the route to MetLife feel far more realistic for ordinary supporters.
