New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) chairman Keshav Chandra on Tuesday travelled to office by Delhi Metro and electric auto while announcing a series of green mobility measures, including a 50 per cent rebate on parking fees for electric vehicles across NDMC parking sites.

Chandra travelled from Lok Kalyan Marg Metro Station to Rajiv Chowk before taking an electric auto to Palika Kendra, saying the move was in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal for austerity measures, fuel conservation and sustainable transport practices.

After reaching office, the NDMC chairman also conducted the weekly meeting with senior officers virtually from the headquarters to reduce unnecessary travel and fuel consumption.

As part of its green mobility initiatives, NDMC announced that EV owners would receive a 50 per cent concession on parking charges at all notified NDMC parking sites from May 18 onwards.

The civic body has also launched electric auto services between Palika Kendra and nearby Metro stations, including Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk and Janpath, along with shuttle bus services from major NDMC residential colonies to the headquarters for employees.

In addition, EV scooter services have been introduced for field staff to improve last-mile connectivity.

Chandra said the initiatives were aimed at reducing pollution, conserving fuel and promoting cleaner commuting options in the national capital. He also urged residents and employees to increasingly adopt public transport, electric vehicles, walking and carpooling.
