Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has emphasized the need for a balanced approach in the ongoing search for Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370. As the nation reflects on a decade since the plane’s mysterious disappearance, Anwar called for careful consideration of public funds while pursuing answers to one of aviation’s greatest enigmas.

In a Facebook post, Anwar underscored the unresolved questions that continue to haunt the families of the victims and the Malaysian public. “"In my view, the government must balance the need to continue searching for MH370 while ensuring that public funds are spent wisely and efficiently,” he remarked. He acknowledged the broader significance of uncovering the truth, stating that all Malaysians deserve to know what happened to the ill-fated aircraft.

Flight MH370 vanished on March 8, 2014, while en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, carrying 239 passengers and crew. Despite extensive investigations and searches, its exact fate remains shrouded in mystery, giving rise to countless theories and speculation over the years.

Anwar assured that Malaysia is committed to cooperating fully with renewed search efforts, provided they show a strong potential for success. “The need for answers transcends the immediate families of the victims; it is a national and global concern,” he added.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke recently revealed progress in the efforts to resume the search for MH370. On December 20, he announced that the Malaysian cabinet had given preliminary approval to a proposal from Ocean Infinity, a US-based exploration company, to explore a new area in the southern Indian Ocean.

Loke confirmed that the government is finalizing negotiations with Ocean Infinity, with the agreement expected to be concluded early next year. Once the terms are set, the search operation will commence without delay. “Ocean Infinity's proposal holds credibility and warrants further evaluation by the Malaysian government as the state responsible for MH370’s registration,” Loke stated.

The tragedy of MH370 remains a deeply emotional issue, not only for the victims’ families but also for the global aviation community. As efforts to uncover the truth move forward, Malaysia faces the challenge of maintaining transparency and fiscal responsibility in this prolonged quest for answers.
