KUALA LUMPUR, May 31 — MIC said it respects Perikatan Nasional’s decision to revoke its earlier approval for the party to join the opposition coalition.

According to Sinar Harian, MIC president Tan Sri SA Vigneswaran said the party had no issue with any PN component, including PAS.

“When the offer was made previously, PN’s leadership was led by Bersatu and at that time MIC was indeed prepared to join it.

“However, no final decision was made. When there was a change in leadership, the mandate given by MIC’s grassroots was based on the Bersatu-led leadership at the time,” he was quoted as saying.

Vigneswaran said this after launching MIC’s Family Day celebration in conjunction with the party’s 80th anniversary in Ipoh today.

He also said MIC remains with Barisan Nasional for now despite not being given any role in the unity government, adding that government posts were not the party’s main priority.

On May 17, Sinar Harian reported PN secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan as saying the earlier decision to accept MIC into PN was no longer relevant and had been revoked because MIC had not confirmed its entry into the coalition.
