SHAH ALAM – The MICCI E-Commerce Chapter has expressed its support for the government’s commitment to strengthening Malaysia’s e-commerce ecosystem, following the tabling of the 2027 Budget.
Representing platforms including Shopee, Lazada, TikTok Shop, Mudah, Carousell and JayaGrocer, the organisation said the measures will safeguard consumers while driving the sustainable growth of local micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
In a statement, its spokesperson Hafidzi Razali said central to these developments is the proposed E-Commerce Bill, which the organisation views as a vital opportunity to elevate standards across the entire sector.
"By embedding responsible practices as a consistent standard for all industry players, the upcoming legislation is expected to deepen public trust and level the playing field.
"This framework aims to foster a healthy marketplace that protects legitimate cross-border trade, expands shopper choices and provides Malaysian businesses with the necessary space to thrive," he said.
Members of the MICCI E-Commerce Chapter are already proactively taking steps aligned with these proposed legislative goals.
Their current initiatives range from enhanced seller verification processes and rigorous product safety controls to dedicated MSME capacity-building programmes.
Moving forward, the organisation looks forward to collaborating closely with the government to build upon these ongoing efforts and to ensure that the final framework remains practical, proportionate and consistently enforced.
