Michael J Fox honoured with special award for charity work at Emmys

  • Michael J Fox has been honoured with the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award at the Emmy Awards for his dedicated advocacy for Parkinson’s disease research.
  • The actor established the Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research in 2000, which has since raised over $2bn (£1.58bn) to help eradicate the disease.
  • Fox was diagnosed with young-onset Parkinson’s disease in 1991 at the age of 29, initially keeping his diagnosis secret before launching his global advocacy work.
  • Accepting the award, presented by Julianna Margulies, Fox expressed gratitude to his family and the patient community, noting that accepting Parkinson's did not mean surrendering to it.
  • The five-time Emmy Award winner was also nominated for guest actor in a comedy series for his role in Shrinking.
