At 58, Bihar-native Rampari Devi continued her family’s streak of electoral wins, bagging Ward 15 of the Bathinda Municipal Corporation.

A homemaker, Rampari was fielded by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) after the ward was reserved for women. Her husband, Aseshar Paswan, a construction worker, has previously served as a municipal councillor three times.

Paswan’s family has resided in Bathinda for the last five decades. Their local ward comprises Beant Singh Nagar, Kacha Dhobiana and Dhobiana Basti — all areas with a sizeable population of migrant workers from Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.

Speaking after his wife’s victory, Paswan said “Residents of the area have been facing sewerage-related difficulties for a long time. We will make every effort to fix the issue during this term.”
