The event, known as “Twilight Tattoo,” featured skydiving by the Army’s Golden Knights, historical displays by the Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps, and precision drills from the US Army Drill Team.

The main parade, set for Saturday in Washington, is expected to draw up to 200,000 people and include military vehicles, aircraft and thousands of troops. The Army says the parade will cost an estimated €22 million to €39 million.

While some veterans view the event as a proud tribute to centuries of service, others have criticised the timing and cost, suggesting it serves more to mark President Donald Trump’s birthday than honour soldiers.
