THE Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) on Friday launched Phase 1 of the Mindanao Integrated Government Network under the National Fiber Backbone Project.
The DICT said this would interconnect 500 government agencies and facilities across key Mindanao hubs, including Cagayan de Oro, Butuan, Davao City, Koronadal and Pagadian.
"Connectivity is not just convenience, it is a lifeline. It is coordination, safety, and faster response when every second matters. The real promise is not just better technology, but better service, and not just faster internet, but a faster response to people’s needs," Information and Communications Technology Secretary Henry Aguda said.
The network aims to create a secure, high-speed digital highway that links government offices across regions into a single and integrated ecosystem.
Agencies connected to the network were the Department of Education, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, Department of Labor and Employment, Department of Public Works and Highways, Department of Environment and Natural Resources and the Office of Civil Defense.
It added the impact of this connectivity extends beyond government offices in Mindanao, and expected to benefit approximately 5.3 million Filipinos through faster, more reliable, and more responsive public services.
