Mindef to overhaul procurement, create integrity board and use AI and ESG frameworks to enhance transparency and prevent abuse of power.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Defence will comprehensively review and restructure all its procurement procedures and processes.

Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said this reform is one of five key frameworks to overhaul the ministry’s procedures and governance.

He announced the establishment of an integrity and trust board to guide the ministry on all matters of integrity and responsibility.

The ministry will also implement digitalisation to use technology as a catalyst for transparency in all processes involving government funds.

“In addition, artificial intelligence will be optimised to facilitate analysis and forecasting in procurement processes, including cost comparison, specifications and efficiency benchmarking with other countries,” he said during a ministerial briefing in the Dewan Rakyat.

He added that AI would also help identify the competencies of serving officers.

Furthermore, Mindef will implement an ESG framework in its governance and that of the Malaysian Armed Forces.

This aims to address governance gaps in line with the national sustainability agenda.
