Kota Kinabalu: The proposed Papar Sports Complex will only be materialised once a suitable site is identified in the district.

Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Ellron Angin said this in reply to the question raised by Limbahau State representative Datuk Juil Nuatim at the State Assembly on Wednesday.

“My Ministry is still looking for a suitable land site of more than 20 acres in the Papar area for the construction of this sports complex.

“This is because the previously proposed land site was found not suitable and once the site is confirmed, the construction of Papar Sports Complex will be listed in the upcoming Malaysia Development Plan,” he said.

He also said the Tongod Sports Complex is now ninety per cent completed and only left with the running track yet to be built.

According to him, the reason for the long delay was due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the presence of large rocks in the site and bad weather in the area.

He added that the contractor has also been warned to complete the job this year.
