Thousands of anti-Immigration and Customs Enforcement demonstrations are taking place in cities across the country this weekend in response to the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis this week.

People in Washington, DC, Boston, New York, Philadelphia and Raleigh turned out for the nonviolent protests, being called “ICE Out For Good.” Photos showed demonstrators holding signs demanding ICE leave their cities or remembering Good’s legacy.

Groups, such as Indivisible, Voto Latino, ACLU, Disappeared in America Campaign and 50501, are helping organize the lawful protests, which call for the government to reduce ICE presence in cities and demand accountability.

Large anti-ICE protests have been ongoing in Minneapolis, drawing hundreds of local and state law enforcement officers. While the protests have been largely peaceful, at least 29 individuals were arrested Friday evening after a hotel was vandalized.

Meanwhile, new cellphone footage of the fatal shooting, reportedly taken by ICE officer Jonathan Ross, emerged Friday. The video, obtained by Alpha News, shows the officer’s interaction with Good before firing shots into her vehicle.

Minneapolis mayor urges protesters not to 'take the bait'

Before nationwide anti-ICE protests began Saturday, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey told peaceful protesters not to “take the bait” when a single agitator begins vandalizing property or acting aggressively toward law enforcement.

“We cannot take the bait,” Frey said in a press conference Saturday morning.

He asserted that President Donald Trump wants to see chaos in cities, which would prove his claim that protesters are violent and that there is an increased need for federal law enforcement in cities.

Frey said any person who engages in protest behavior not protected by the Constitution would be held accountable.

Frey discusses ICE incident where car was left rolling in street

18:30 , Ariana Baio

Frey accused ICE of not prioritizing the safety of Minneapolis residents when conducting immigration operations, recalling an incident in which ICE detained an individual from a car in the middle of the street without putting the vehicle in park.

The car, which was in the middle of a “significant” street, ended up rolling down the street.

“This was a car that was rolling down the street that could have hit anybody, including my own family members that live not too far from here,” Frey said in a press conference Saturday morning. “So, this is not about safety, clearly. If this was about safety, you wouldn’t do stupid things like that. Somebody’s going to get hurt. Somebody has gotten killed.”

Frey said local and state law enforcement’s actions have shown a “true juxtaposition” compared to ICE’s actions.

Minnesota Rep. Angie Crag called on her Republican colleagues to assist Democrats in conducting congressional oversight on an ICE detention center in Minneapolis.

Craig and several other Democrats, including Rep. Ilhan Omar, were turned away from the federal building in the city Saturday morning while trying to view conditions.

"We're here because we're members of Congress. We have every right and responsibility if we're doing our jobs go be here today, to see what the conditions are in that detention center," Craig said.

"We need Minnesota Republicans, we need Republicans across this country, to stand up to their own party. This is beyond the pale."

Protesters sue ICE to stop ‘unconstitutional’ Minnesota actions

14:30 , Alex Woodward

Protesters suing to block “unconstitutional” federal law enforcement actions in Minnesota have described officers firing pepper spray into a moving car and threatening to break a car window on the same day an agent fatally shot Renee Good.

The ACLU filed a lawsuit in December on behalf of a group of Minneapolis residents who alleged Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents followed them home, fired chemical spray and rubber bullets and threatened them with arrest as Donald Trump’s administration began surging federal law enforcement into the state.

But “extraordinary circumstances” — including Good’s death and aggressive confrontations with federal agents in the wake of her killing — require a federal judge’s swift intervention to block any further threats, plaintiffs wrote Thursday.

‘You’re almost inducing a shooting’: Former officers break down what went wrong in Minneapolis

14:00 , Alex Woodward

Donald Trump’s administration has repeatedly claimed that a federal officer who fatally shot Renee Good in Minnesota was justified, alleging that the 37-year-old mother of three was a “violent rioter” who intentionally used her car to ram the agent in an act of “domestic terrorism.”

The officer, who has been identified as Jonathan Ross, fired three shots because he feared for his life, according to administration officials.

But former Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers and police misconduct experts dispute the administration’s insistence that the use of deadly force was justified and questioned the officer’s behavior.

In Minneapolis, a coalition of migrant rights groups have called for a demonstration at Powderhorn Park, a large green space about half a mile from where 37-year-old Renee Good was shot in a residential neighborhood on Wednesday.

They said the rally and march would celebrate Good’s life and call for an “end to deadly terror on our streets.”

Protests held in the neighborhood so far have been peaceful, in contrast to the violence that hit Minneapolis in the aftermath of the killing of George Floyd in 2020.

Near the airport, some confrontations erupted on Thursday and Friday between smaller groups of protesters and agents guarding the federal building used as a base for the Twin Cities crackdown.

ICYMI: Minneapolis mayor says JD Vance 'absolute immunity' comment is 'bizarre'

11:00 , Katie Hawkinson

Jacob Frey has said that Vice President JD Vance’s suggestion that the ICE agent responsible for Wednesday’s shooting has “absolute immunity” is “pretty bizarre.”

Speaking to reporters Thursday, Vance said: “The precedent is very simple: You have a federal law enforcement official engaging in federal law enforcement action — that’s a federal issue. He is protected by absolute immunity. He was doing his job.”

In a separate conference Friday, the Minneapolis mayor said: “This concept of absolute immunity is is pretty bizarre. It’s very concerning. It's extremely concerning.

“That's why we're asking for the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension to be part of the investigation for the timeline.”

Protests across the country planned for Saturday

10:01 , Sam Rkaina

Protests against immigration enforcement are planned for cities and towns across the country on Saturday as anger over the killing of Renee Good continues to grow.

The demonstrations come as the U.S. Department of Homeland Security pushes forward in the Twin Cities with what it calls its biggest-ever immigration enforcement operation.

President Donald Trump's administration has said the shooting in Minneapolis and another in Portland were acts of self-defense against drivers who “weaponized” their vehicles to attack officers.

Indivisible, a social movement organization that formed to resist the Trump administration, said hundreds of protests were scheduled in Texas, Kansas, New Mexico, Ohio, Florida and other states.

Many were dubbed “ICE Out for Good” using the acronym for the agency Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Indivisible and its local chapters organized protests in all 50 states last year.
