Miranda Hart has nicknamed herself the “mad, fat old aunt” of The Celebrity Traitors series two as she poked fun at her unfortunate “moustache” moment in a hilarious video.
The sitcom actor and comedian is one of the 21 famous names competing on the star-studded spin-off of the BBC’s flagship game show. The first two episodes saw Hart, 53, become a Faithful and stay relatively under the radar.
However, she was the subject of some of the series’ funniest memes so far, after the second episode’s digging challenge left her with a smudge of dirt on her top lip that, without her knowledge, looked like Adolf Hitler’s moustache.
On Tuesday (6 October), Hart poked fun at as she posted a video to Instagram recreating the look with mud on her face and a twig down her shirt.
“Oh absolutely, I’m delighted Traitors is on telly finally,” she told the camera. “It’s really fun, I genuinely loved it so much. I wish I’d been filming for months but I wonder if I’ve segued into the mad fat old aunt role a little too soon. I don’t know – jury’s out.”
The post was liked 230,000 times, with the top comment joking that she’d become “Meinranda”.
“The mud moustache was the most absolutely perfect thing to happen in the whole wide world. It was like watching an episode of [sitcom] Miranda. Such fun!” another fan wrote.
“When you stood up with a lil moustache I nearly died laughing. GENUINELY such fun,” one viewer echoed.
And as her fans labelled Hart a “national treasure”, her Celebrity Traitors co-stars also saw the funny side.
Richard E Grant (who is a Traitor) commented a series of laughing emojis, while Bella Ramsay called Hart an “icon”.
“This is the greatest video ever made,” wrote Amol Rajan.
University Challenge presenter Rajan was the first celebrity of the series to be murdered after Traitors Grant and Maya Jama were forced to choose one star to recruit and one to murder, making both beg to join their team.
The Traitors opted for comedian James Acaster, with the aim of protecting Grant after he confessed to being a Traitor in the show’s shocking first episode.
However, the heat still came on Grant at the first round table, with the episode ending with a cliffhanger ahead of the votes being revealed.
The Celebrity Traitors continues Thursday 8 October at 8pm on BBC One.
