Kota Kinabalu: A 40-year-old runner was charged in the Magistrate’s Court here, Friday, with misappropriating RM60,000 cash belonging to a company.
Chong Kok Hiung, who appeared before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie, pleaded not guilty to committing the offence on Aug 2, 2023, in a house at Taman Kingfisher, here.
Chong allegedly misused the money belonging to Sea Star Resort Sdn Bhd, which was supposed to be used as a deposit for a vehicle.
The charge, under Section 403 of the Penal Codel, carries a jail term of between six months and five years and whipping and liability of a fine on conviction.

Chong, who was not represented, applied for a lower bail as he was the sole breadwinner of his family.
Stephanie set case management on Aug 20 and released the accused on a bail of RM1,500 in two sureties.
In another case, a 52-year-old man was fined RM1,000 or one-month jail for fighting in public.
Chaw Win Teck admitted to committing the offence against a Korean man, Kang Youngjin, on Jan 23, this year, at 4.10pm at the bag drop area of a Golf Club, Sutera Harbour.
The charge, under Section 160 of the Penal Code, carries a jail term of up to six months or a fine of up to RM1,000, or both, on conviction.
Chaw, who was not represented, requested for a lower fine.
Meanwhile, Kang, 59, who was also charged separately with similar offence, claimed trial to the charge.
The prosecution, in applying for a PTCM date, proposed no bail as the accused is a Korean national.
Unrepresented, Kang informed the court that he had a valid passport and was in the State as an advisor for a friend’s company.
The court set Aug 15 for PTCM and offered Kang bail at RM1,000 in one surety and ordered his passport to be kept by the court.
