PITAS: The body of a 42-year-old man who went missing at sea near Kampung Pinggan-Pinggan on Thursday was found floating by villagers early Friday morning.
Pitas Fire and Rescue Station Chief, PBT II Noor Jali Maslah said the body of the victim, Rozaimie Masiun, was discovered near a bagang (traditional fishing platform) at around 7.36am. Noor Jali said the victim and a friend had gone spearfishing before the incident occurred.
During their dive, they noticed their boat had drifted away. The victim attempted to swim after it but never returned.
“His friend waited for him at the fishing platform, but after several hours with no sign of him, he raised the alarm,” Noor Jali said. A distress call was received at 8am on Thursday, and five firefighters, led by PBK I Farro Rynson Gusar, were deployed to the scene along with a utility vehicle.
The search and rescue (SAR) operation involved the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (APMM), Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Civil Defence Force (APM), and Ministry of Health (KKM), with assistance from local villagers. The body was retrieved and handed over to police for transport to the hospital for further action.
