KUANTAN - An Orang Asli woman who had been reported missing since last Wednesday was found dead in a swamp about 500 metres from her home in Kampung Lesong, Kedaik, Rompin today.
Rompin police chief superintendent Sharif Shai Sharif Mondoi said the body of Kuang Poh, 73, was found by Team B of the search and rescue (SAR) operation at 11.50 am on the sixth day of the search.
"The SAR team brought the victim's body out at 1.05 pm before it was sent to the Rompin Hospital Forensic Department," he said in a statement today.
Meanwhile, he said the cause of death could not be ascertained as the body was already decomposed, adding that the case was being investigated as sudden death (SDR).
Sharif Shai said today's SAR operation involved 43 personnel and civilians from the Royal Malaysia Police, Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), Malaysia Civil Defence Force (APM), Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan), Forestry Department and villagers.
He said the search team was divided into two groups and conducted searches at several targeted locations within a five-kilometre radius, with assistance from the Rompin IPD Drone Unit, Kuantan JBPM Drone Unit and Pahang IPK K9 Unit.
"The SAR operation was completed and the Police Control Post (PKP) was closed at 2 pm," he said.
The woman was previously reported missing in the forest of Kampung Lesong after going fishing in the village's swamp area on Sept 23. - BERNAMA
