The Investment, Trade and Industry Ministry has denied issuing letters soliciting money for investments, urging the public to report any such fraudulent documents to the police.
KUALA LUMPUR: The Investment, Trade and Industry Ministry has issued a stern warning to the public over fraudulent letters that falsely use its name and letterhead to solicit money for investment schemes.
Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani stated that the ministry has not issued any letters requesting members of the public to deposit savings into company or personal accounts for investment purposes.
He urged the public to remain vigilant and not be deceived by scams involving forged MITI documents, which are being used to solicit funds.
Johari advised anyone who receives a suspicious letter or investment offer to lodge a police report immediately for further action.
The minister also shared a video on his Facebook page showing an individual meeting him while carrying a fraudulent letter bearing the national coat of arms and the ministry’s letterhead.
In the video, the individual was asking for RM3,000 in exchange for promised returns, with the letter purportedly signed by Johari himself.
Johari can be seen in the footage advising the individual to report the fake document to the authorities.
