A Malaysian woman recently shared a touching story about a mixed rice stall owner who secretly fed her for two years, shortly after her mother passed away, a truth she only discovered eight years later.

Raised by Grandmother After Mother’s Passing

In an anonymous confession, the woman revealed she came from a single parent family and was primarily raised by her grandmother while her mother worked daily. When she was 10, her mother passed away due to illness, leaving her and her grandmother to face life alone.

With limited income, her retired grandmother returned to work to support the girl’s schooling. As money became tighter, the pair often survived on instant noodles.

Hawker Claims “Your Mum Left Money”

One day after school, the girl wandered into a nearby food court, hoping to buy a snack. Finding only RM2 in her pocket, she walked past a mixed rice stall in disappointment, until the stall owner called out to her.

According to the woman, the hawker told her:

“Your mummy left some money with me before she passed away. If you come here to eat, I’ll just deduct it from there.”

Hungry and confused, she accepted the offer. After finishing her meal, she tried to ask how much she owed, but the stall owner refused to take any money. He even allowed her to pack food home for her grandmother.

From that day onward, the mixed rice stall became a part of her daily life. Whenever she worried whether the “money” would run out, the owner reassured her that there was plenty left.

She continued eating there for almost two years before moving in 2014 to live with her biological father, who later offered to support her education. She admitted she had been reluctant to leave because her grandmother was the one who had truly raised her.

The Truth Revealed Years Later

At 18, she returned to the neighborhood and visited the stall, only to be greeted by the owner’s wife. She learned that the stall owner had passed away a year after she moved away.

During their conversation, his wife revealed the truth: there was never any money left by her mother. The hawker had heard about her family situation from customers and, seeing the young girl staring longingly at his food, created the story so she could eat without guilt.

The woman ended her confession with gratitude, thanking the late hawker for giving a little girl who could only afford instant noodles the chance to enjoy a warm meal every day for two years.
