MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will close lanes along EDSA near North and West Avenues at night starting Feb. 1, 2026 to allow major construction activities for the MRT-7 project, which is expected to affect traffic flow in Quezon City for the next several months.

The MMDA said on Friday that construction contractor VPS Steel Structure Corporation would carry out steel girder launching and support works that would require road and lane closures between North EDSA, West Avenue, and nearby sections, with most activities scheduled from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. to limit daytime disruption.

From Feb. 1 to May 19, lanes along North EDSA between the Landmark–Trinoma area and the Unified Grand Central Station site will close nightly, while another set of nighttime closures will take place along West Avenue and EDSA from March 24 to April 29, the agency said.

Beyond nighttime closures, the MMDA said motorists should expect round-the-clock lane reductions near North Avenue, with two northbound lanes closed 24 hours a day from Feb. 1 to May 8, and two southbound lanes closed continuously from Feb. 15 to May 18 to allow the installation and removal of tower support systems.

The MMDA warned that traffic congestion was expected during these periods despite the opening of zipper lanes and the deployment of additional traffic personnel, as the MRT-7 project—now over 82 percent complete—pushes critical works toward partial operations in Quezon City by 2027.
