The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) recently detained a boat in the waters here for carrying passengers beyond the permitted limit.
Sabah and Labuan Maritime Director Datuk Che Engku Suhaimi Che Engku Daik said the patrol boat, which was conducting a patrol under the Preventive SAR operation, spotted and detained the passenger boat approximately 0.56 nautical miles from Mamutik Island.
Further inspection revealed that, in addition to the boat's registration number not complying with the specified standards, the engine's serial number also did not match the one listed on the licence.
The boat and its skipper were detained and taken to the Sepanggar Maritime Jetty for further investigation. The total value of the seizure is estimated to be nearly RM80,000.
