LAHAD DATU: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) seized an unregistered boat laden with a Yamaha motorcycle and 240 litres of petrol off Felda Sahabat on Wednesday.
Lahad Datu Maritime Zone Director Maritime Commander Dzulfikhar Ali said patrol personnel on Ops Sejahtera and Ops Tiris 4.0 spotted the vessel some 0.35 nautical miles southwest of Kampung Sinakut Tengah before attempting an interception.
The suspect fled towards the coastline upon sighting the enforcement craft and escaped on foot into nearby bushes, leaving the boat behind.
An inspection of the abandoned vessel uncovered 12 containers holding the petrol alongside the motorcycle, all of which were suspected of being bound for a neighbouring country.
Dzulfikhar said the seized vessel and goods, estimated to be worth RM50,000, were taken to the Felda Sahabat Maritime base for investigation under the Control of Supply Act 1961 and the Customs Act 1967.
