Mob causes $10,000 of damage after storming Scientology church in social media stunt

A mob of teenagers and young adults stormed a New York Scientology church, causing more than $10,000 worth of damage.

Footage shared by the New York Police Department (NYPD) shows more than 30 individuals entering the building on West Street on 2 May through a locked door whilst a service was taking place.

The group then charged through the church, knocking over furniture, before fleeing on foot.

Police said they also kicked a 30-year-old employee in the leg. He sustained minor injuries and was not hospitalised.

The individuals were thought to be participating in an online trend known as “Scientology speed running”, which sees people charging through properties linked to or owned by the church.
