
National weightlifter Mohamad Aniq Kasdan wins Malaysia’s first gold at Glasgow 2026, setting Games records.
GLASGOW: National weightlifter ace Mohamad Aniq Kasdan delivered Malaysia’s first gold medal at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games after winning the men’s 60 kilogrammes (kg) category at the Scottish Event Campus (SEC) Armadillo here, today.
Mohamad Aniq secured the title with a total lift of 273kg, comprising 121kg in the snatch and 152kg in the clean and jerk, with both the clean and jerk and total lifts setting new Games records.
He finished ahead of Rishikanta Singh Chanambam who recorded 264kg, while Joshua Amunga Mboya of Kenya took bronze with 260kg.
The victory opened Malaysia’s gold-medal account in Glasgow and added to the bronze won earlier by para powerlifting ace Bonnie Bunyau Gustin.
Mohamad Aniq was the defending Commonwealth Games champion, having won the men’s 55kg category at Birmingham 2022 with a total lift of 249kg.
He lifted 107kg in the snatch and 142kg in the clean and jerk, which was also a Games record.
