Moment robot promises to ‘devote myself’ as it becomes ordained buddhist monk

Watch as a humanoid robot professes that it will “devote himself” as it becomes a buddhist monk.

Gabi, a 4.3 feet robot monk, wore brown robes as it participated in an ordination ceremony at a temple in South Korea.

Footage shows the robot bowing to monks presiding over the ceremony at Jogye Temple in Seoul as a rosary necklace was placed around its neck on Wednesday (6 May).

"Robot monk, please reply with palms together, 'Yes, I will devote myself’,” said one monk. “Yes, I will devote myself,” replied Gabi.

The ritual came ahead of Buddha’s birthday celebrations on 24 May.
