MANILA, Philippines – The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) said on Tuesday that the security coverage for Monday’s State of the Nation (SONA) of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. was “generally peaceful and orderly” even after 51 people, 12 of them minors, were arrested.
Brig. Gen. Randy Glenn Silvio, QCPD director, described the alleged act of vandalism by the 12 minors as an isolated incident.
Of those under police custody, Silvio said nine of them were subjected to inquest proceedings for violations of existing laws while the rest remained under investigation to determine their respective participation in the incident.
Meanwhile, he said the "rescued" male minors have been profiled and documented by the City Social Services Development Department with the assistance of QCPD’s Women and Children Protection Desk before being released to their respective parents and guardians in accordance with existing laws and procedures.
To ensure the orderly conduct of the President’s annual address, the QCPD chief said sufficient police personnel, including augmentation forces from various Philippine National Police units, were strategically deployed alongside force multipliers and partner agencies in and around the Batasang Pambansa Complex, Commonwealth Avenue, and other key areas.
According to QCPD, an estimated 7,000 individuals participated in various public assemblies and protest activities in connection with the SONA.
He was quick to commend the professionalism, discipline, and dedication demonstrated by all personnel who contributed to the implementation of the security operations.
He stressed that the peaceful and orderly conduct of SONA 2026 was the result of effective planning, close inter-agency coordination, and unified leadership.
