Monday's With Job Week 11
Better Decisions, Better Productivity
This is the 11th week of my Monday's With Job series, a simple idea I started to share every Monday. One practical productivity insight to help you work better, stay focused, and finish stronger.
This week, I want to talk about decision making.
Recently, while mentoring a young person who was struggling to make an important decision, made me to realize that many of the problems we face at work and in life are not caused by a lack of ability but they're often the result of poor decisions.
Every day, we make decisions. Some are small, while others influence our work, relationships, finances, and set the direction for our future.
Many poor decisions happen because:
1. We allow emotions to win over logic.
2. We choose what's easy versus long-term outcomes.
3. We focus on what is urgent instead of what is important.
4. Our friends from whom we pick up habits, mindset and values.
It is always important to remember that when we make better decisions, the chances of better outcomes also increases. When there are better outcomes, there is also momentum and momentum enables us to go higher in life.
Remember, when we make better decisions
1. We prioritize the right work
Instead of working on everything, we work strategically on the things that help us move closer to the set goals.
2. Mistakes also decreases
When there are less mistakes, there is not much rework to be done and thereby less wasted time and resources.
3. We build trust
People have more trust in individuals who are capable of making good decisions compared to just reacting to situations.
4. We choose long term outcomes over short term gain
Choosing what helps you in the long term leads to greater success compared to what makes you feel comfortable today.
Here are four questions to help you with your decision making process this week. Ask yourself these questions so that it will bring clarity.
1. Am I responding or reacting ?
2. Am I choosing long term results or short term convenience?
3. Is this really important or just urgent?
4. Are the people influencing me helping me to become better?
These four questions won't answer every decision you are about to make but they can help you to make wiser and better choices.
Before making your next important decision, pause and ask yourself these four questions.
Have a productive week ahead!
