MANILA, Philippines — Typhoon Inday (international name: Bavi) is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by Saturday morning, but the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) warned that the enhanced southwest monsoon woukd continue to bring heavy rainfall and strong winds over much of the country.
In its early morning bulletin, Pagasa said Inday was moving northwestward at 20 kilometers per hour, with maximum sustained winds of 140 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 170 kph. The typhoon is forecast to remain at typhoon strength within the next 12 hours before weakening into a severe tropical storm after moving inland over mainland China.
Despite its expected exit from PAR, PAGASA said the enhanced southwest monsoon and the typhoon’s outer circulation would continue to bring heavy rainfall and strong to gale-force gusts over most parts of the country on Saturday. The state weather bureau referred the public to Weather Advisory 19 for the latest rainfall outlook associated with the southwest monsoon.
Pagasa also said the enhanced southwest monsoon was expected to continue generating strong to gale-force gusts and heavy rains over most of the country through Sunday and Monday even after Inday leaves the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) and advised the public to continue monitoring bulletins and advisories.
