MANILA, Philippines — Several Metro Manila local government units suspended classes on Saturday, as Typhoon "Inday" continued to enhance the southwest monsoon, bringing persistent rains over parts of Luzon.
Local officials said the suspensions were issued as a precaution against the expected inclement weather, with some local governments also canceling online classes and school-related activities.
The following class suspensions were announced:
* Marikina City – All levels (public and private); face-to-face and online classes, as well as all school-related activities, suspended.
* Caloocan City – All levels (public and private).
* Malabon City – All levels (public and private).
* Valenzuela City – All levels (public and private).
Marikina Mayor Marjorie Ann Teodoro said the suspension was based on the latest DOST-Pagasa forecast on Typhoon Inday and the enhanced southwest monsoon, stressing that the safety and welfare of students, teachers and their families remain the city’s top priority.
Meanwhile, the Valenzuela City government said it continued to monitor weather conditions through the Valenzuela City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (VCDRRMO), with emergency response teams on standby to respond to possible incidents.
